“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
(The Gospel of St. Matthew 11:28-30, NKJV)
The Diocese of South-West America (DS-WA) of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC) hopes to share the fullness of the Faith through the Department of Counseling Services. With the blessing and guidance of the Diocesan Metropolitan His Grace Alexios Mar Eusebius, this ministry is committed to providing support and direction to those who struggle with emotional and mental health concerns. The mission statement of the ministry is to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing to all individuals, families and communities seeking Christ by providing support, education, professional resources and prayer in the midst of sociological and psychological stressors.
The long-term goals of this ministry are to:
- Teach that the Church cares and teaches about overall wellness (i.e. physical and mental) as a means to find Fullness in Christ.
- Educate the community about the prevalence of mental health issues within the community
- Decrease stigma and misconceptions of mental health concerns within the community
- Provide culturally and spiritually competent community psychotherapy referrals sources to members of clergy, family members and individuals while integrating pastoral guidance
