Chief Editor of Malayala Manorama K.M. Mathew, passed away

    

KOTTAYAM: Chief Editor of Malayala Manorama K.M. Mathew, who passed away on August 1, 2010 at Kottayam, India. Funeral  will be at  Puthenpalli cemetery Kottayam

The mortal remains would be kept at Malayala Manorama office from 12.30 onwards until the burial would take place at the Puthen pally, Kottayam at 4 pm. H.H. Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Didimos Ist, Catholicose of the East will be the chief celebrant assisted by all Their Graces the Metropolitans of the Holy church as well as the sister churches

Shri K.M. Mathew served Malanakara Orthdox Syrian Church as a Working Committee Member and Managing Committee Member during times of tempest and tumults.

Born as the eighth child of the illustrious Thayil Kandathil K.C. Mamenmappila and Kunjandamma (Mammy) on Jan 2,  1917 at Alapuzha, he did his primary education at Government school in Kuppapuram near Alappuhza.   Later he continued his studies at Leo XIII H.S. and M.D.Seminary H.S. After completing the Intermediate Course from C.M.S. College, he acquired B.A. Degree  in Economics from Madras Christian College.

He joined Malayala Manorama in 1954 as Managing Editor and General Manager.During this time, he has served as Sankara chettan, of Akhila Kerala Bala Jana Sakhyam, considering the all round growth of the youngsters of the society. Bala Jana Sakhyam was a training center for many of the current leaders in the social, political and religious fields. In 1973 he became Chief Editor of Manorama after the death of his elder brother Mr K.M. Cherian.  During his tenure as Chief Editor, Manorama  daily’s circulation increased from a mere 30,000 copies to a record 18, 00,000 copies.
